The Lord’s Prayer is at the heart of Christian spirituality and Christian theology. Alongside the Nicene Creed, it has been repeatedly the focus of courses on Christian doctrine. So what does it teach? And what does it teach differently, or in a different way, from what we find elsewhere in the Bible and Christian tradition? This course will be a refresher for all on what we mean when we pray the Lord’s Prayer, and what we learn from the Lord’s Prayer about Christian faith and a life of prayer.

If you questions, please contact the Randy Forrester (RForrester@StAndrews.Church or 843.284.4320).

This course is also available via web streaming. If your church would like to host a web streaming location and have questions, please contact us and we can tell what kind of technical set up might work best for your situation.

  • $50 fee
  • Stream begins approximately 6:45 each evening.

Fall 2017 – City Church Table Gatherings

  • Dinners will be hosted in homes throughout the Charleston area.
  • All Table Gatherings will begin at 7pm.

Shared meals are a notable theme throughout Scripture. In the Old Testament, covenants are bound by a meal. Jesus reveals his nature by eating with sinners, and makes himself known to the travelers from the road to Emmaus in the “breaking of bread.” The bread and wine of the Last Supper become a tangible sacrament of our faith, symbolizing Christ’s work and our need as we come to the table empty handed.

If you’re not connected within a Life Group, we want to offer you an opportunity to connect around the table.

A handful of hospitality minded folks are opening their homes for dinner the week of October 2nd – 6th. These will be small gatherings to help you get beyond the quick introductions of a Sunday morning.

Please feel free to email Emma Groppe at EGroppe@StAndrews.Church with any questions.

Please join us for discussion of Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer’s book How Should We Then Live? Sundays after the 11:00 service in October. Schaeffer, a man who cared deeply about people and their search for truth, meaning, and beauty, believed that if we are to answer the question posed in his title, we have to understand the cultural and intellectual forces that inform us. Although this book was written in the mid-70s as he and other leaders were attempting to sort through the cultural upheaval of the 60s and its implications for the church and Western culture, we today have much to glean from insights.

Reading How Should We Then Live? had a profound effect on the way I understand the extraordinary role of artists through history. All the art history classes I took for my BFA didn’t come close to providing the insights and wisdom spelled out by Francis Schaeffer in this book.
As an artist who is called to Christ, I find this classic book to be an incredible resource and inspiration! -Beth Williams, Artist and City Church member

Register using the form below. Sign up by September 24 and we will purchase a copy of Schaeffer’s book for you! (Pre-ordered books will be available for pick up at City Church services on October 1.)

We will meet downtown, and we will let registrants know specifics by email as we get an idea of how many will participate.
