Don’t just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon:Matthew 11:25-30
After ultimately being rejected by the leaders and influencers of the major towns of Galilee, Jesus nonetheless rejoices over what his Father was doing in revealing himself through Jesus to simple, humble people. Israel was experiencing a spiritual and political crisis but could not see God’s gracious provision staring them in the face. As we look at the events of our own day, we too are a nation in spiritual and political crisis. Many might be tempted to say, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” But Jesus offers people real change. Eternal change. In this passage Jesus gives:
- a compelling invitation,
- a bold challenge, and
- trustworthy promises.
They are as potent today as they were when he first made the offer.
- How do you fit in the performance culture of our day? What are the burdens that you carry?
- How might partnering with Jesus in life be easier than being yoked with the weight of the behavioral expectations of others and striving to accomplish more?
- From what do you need to rest? What gives you true rest?
- What is your response to Jesus’ invitation to come to him?
