Don’t just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon: Psalm 23, 2 Corinthians 1:3-11.
Suffering is a universal human experience. When a person suffers, it is common to ask “why?” But a more helpful question for the follower of Jesus Christ is to ask “what is this suffering for?”
From Paul’s witness in 2 Corinthians 1:3 – 11, we see three answers:
- In suffering, God reveals his merciful character
- In suffering, God comforts us so that we can comfort others
- In suffering, God turns us away from self-reliance to greater dependence upon him
How do we learn God’s merciful character?
What were Randy’s two points of guidance when trying to offer comfort to others?
